  • Keegan's Spring AwakeningDupont Circle’s resident theater company. Our first show was here at Church Street Theater in 1996. We returned in 2005 with 3 to 5 shows each year. Then in 2009, building on overwhelming support and sold-out audiences, Church Street became our permanent home, and Keegan became Dupont Circle’s resident theater company.
  • Character Driven, Audience Approved. Our shows present stories about what it means to be human, told in what one patron called the most intimate theatrical setting he’s ever experienced. Keegan actors commit to the words on the page and the honesty of the work. Our vision: powerful productions of classic and modern plays – fueled by the highest caliber acting and design, intense personal staging, scripts that put real people out there on the stark edges of life, and a directing approach that respects straightforward storytelling rather than concepts that too often just get in the way.

From the beginning, Keegan attracted and embraced performers committed to each other as much as to the work, actors who valued the stories told over anything else. Today, we are family, a family of designers, of actors, of directors and playwrights, of leadership. This is a company created by actors for actors. That’s why our audiences are always in good company.
  • A Bold Champion of New Plays. Keegan has produced 12 world premieres, 2 American premieres, and 2 D.C. premieres, including a world premier musical, National Pastime, in 2011.
  • Excellence Recognized. Keegan has received 20 Helen Hayes Nominations, 2 Helen Hayes awards, 3 Theatre Lobby Mary Goldwater Awards, and the Star Award for Managerial Excellence from the Arlington Commission for the Arts.
  • The Ireland Tour. Keegan began a relationship with the people and theatres of Ireland in 1999. Each year, we tour Ireland with a great American play. Our largest tour to date: 32 performances in 9 cities.
  • Affordable and Profitable. We know theater management. Since our first performance, Keegan has kept ticket prices affordable, attracting seasoned and novice theatergoers alike. By effectively managing our resources, we remain consistently profitable, operating entirely on ticket sales and private donations. No public support required.
  • In 2012, WASHINGTONIAN magazine named Keegan Theatre one of Washington’s “hidden gems.” In good company, it’s time to come out of hiding. The In Good Company Campaign is making it happen.
  • Since 2006 Keegan’s audience has grown from 6,000 to 14,000 and our revenues have tripled.
