Gail Hansen is a public health veterinarian with The Pew Charitable Trusts. She came to DC in 2008 for what was to be a one year Fellowship in Congress and like so many before her, was lured by the wonder that is the nation’s capital. Dr. Hansen is also the current president of the DC Veterinary Medical Association. Before DC, Gail was in Kansas for 12 years as the state epidemiologist and state public health veterinarian for the Kansas State Health Department, working mostly on disease outbreaks. Although the health department is a state agency, 95% of the funding for her section was from federal and private grants. In Kansas she was involved with two community theaters: Topeka Community Theatre and Theatre Lawrence. Theatre Lawrence just finished a capital campaign with a brand new building; both Gail and her husband, Peter were heavily involved in that campaign. She understands the need for sufficient bathrooms in a theater and in the larger sense, the importance of theater and arts in a community. She is delighted to have the opportunity to serve on the Keegan Theatre Board at such an important time and with a tremendous group.
