PRESS RELEASE: Twelve Angry Men

February 13, 2012:  Fresh off a sellout  run of Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Keegan Theatre presents Reginald Rose’s classic Twelve Angry Men, opening  March 3 and running through March 25, 2012  at the Church Street Theater.

Twelve Angry Men is the gripping examination of twelve jurors as they deliberate after hearing the arguments in a seemingly open-and-shut case.  As prejudices are tested and evidence weighed, the entire jury is forced to look past the show of the courtroom to unearth the shocking truth. Faced with playing the hangmen, these dozen men must first face themselves.

In his directorial debut for Keegan, local director and two-time Helen Hayes nominee Christopher Gallu directs an ensemble that features Tim Lynch, Rich Montgomery, Bradley Smith, Michael Innocenti, Mike Kozemchak, Jon Townson, Mark Rhea, Richard Jamborsky, Colin Smith, Andres Talero, Kevin Adams and Dave Jourdan, who is reprising the role for which he received a Helen Hayes nomination in 2001.

“First of all, I am delighted to have Chris directing at Keegan,” says Mark A. Rhea, Keegan’s founder and producing artistic director. “I have wanted to work with him for a while, and this play is a great fit for his strengths as well as Keegan’s.

The combination of this stunning piece of writing and this outstanding ensemble of actors – catalyzed by Chris’s vision and leadership – should make for a really tremendous production.  We are excited to share this great piece of American theater with audiences.”

Audience growth has continued to break box office records this season at Keegan, packing in to Church Street to take in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, Matthew Keenan’s new holiday play An Irish Carol, and Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor.   Says Rhea, “We feel very proud of the scope and power of the season we’ve produced so far. I’m confident that Twelve Angry Men will continue to fulfill the expectations that we set for our audiences: great storytelling by exceptional artists in an intimate space.”

The press opening for 12 Angry Men is March 5, 2012 at 8:00pm.

The Keegan Theatre, in its 15th season in Washington DC, is the resident company at Church Street Theater in Dupont Circle.
