Arthur Kipps, a young solicitor, is sent to the desolate Eel Marsh House to settle an estate. However, his routine assignment quickly spirals into a harrowing encounter with a malevolent spirit, the elusive and vengeful Woman in Black. As he recounts his terrifying experiences with the help of an Actor, the audience is drawn deeper into a story that blurs the lines between reality and nightmare.

In this chilling adaptation of Susan Hill’s classic ghost story, THE WOMAN IN BLACK transports audiences to a time when the veil between the living and the dead seems thinnest. As the nights grow long and shadows stretch further, the Victorian tradition of telling ghost stories around the fire comes alive on stage.

DC Theater Arts Review

“Ghost stories work because they play to the part of the brain that doesn’t deal in reason. Instead, they pick at fear and imagination. The Woman in Black at Keegan Theatre does that remarkably well.”

Washington City Paper Review

“The play is first and foremost a ghost story, and its compelling plot and satisfying twists are more than enough to keep a viewer invested. … That alone makes this Church Street trick a real Halloween treat.”

Broadway World Review

“The stylish technical aspects of the show in tandem with the wonderful world Leembruggen and Mutterperl paint with their performances allow the audience to slip into that spooky room and hear a ghastly tale.”
