The bitch is back and this time… she’s turning 30. Beatrice Owens (Hands on a Hardbody) returns to the Keegan Theatre stage to take stock of her 20s and prepare for the Big 3-0. Through personal stories, a nervous breakdown (or five), and a soundtrack of pop/rock and musical theatre favorites, Owens invites you along for the party that is discovering your identity, agency, and finally asking the question, “Why is 30 such a big fucking deal, anyway?”
Join us after the performance for a special audience talkback with some of the artists behind the production. Learn what inspired our artists in their work on the show, about special moments in the development process, and more! Audience members are invited to ask questions as part of our mission to bring artists and audiences together in conversation around live theater and the themes of our works.
This Women’s Storytelling Salon™, entitled Curtain Up: South Asian Women’s Stories of Resilience and Perseverence in Film & Theater, will feature Priyanka Shetty (writer and performer of THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM, coming up at Keegan this June) and Sangeeta Agrawal, two outstanding women who are not only actors but also directors, playwrights, and filmmakers!
It’s hard enough being a woman in film and theater in America, so imagine being a woman actor trying navigate life as an immigrant in a politically charged America! How do you get cast as a woman of color if there are no roles written for you, or because you aren’t the right color for a specific role? Find out how our storytellers became actors and then began to write and direct stories that focus on their own lived experience. Join us to learn about the journeys of these two internationally acclaimed actors, directors, and writers, and to celebrate South Asian women who are not only emerging, they are arriving!
If you cannot attend the Salon in person, you can register to watch it later; a secure link to the Salon video recording will be shared with you after the Salon has ended.
