Mission & Values

The Keegan Theatre Mission

To take audiences to the vital heart of the theater experience: extraordinary artists in an intimate setting exploring the human condition. To foster connections and positive change in our community through vigorous, inclusive, empowering education and outreach.

Commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, & Anti-Racism

The Keegan Theatre believes that any open and honest exploration of the human condition requires active promotion of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism. It is only through a commitment to these critical tenets, on both an individual and an institutional level, that artists, patrons, students, and arts advocates can learn, create, and connect in an environment free from the insidious, debilitating effects of prejudice, discrimination, and marginalization.

Partnering with Challenging Racism

Since 2021, Keegan has been honored to partner with Challenging Racism, an Arlington-based organization whose mission is to educate people about the prevalence and inequities of institutional and systemic racism, giving them the knowledge and tools they need to challenge racism where they encounter it.

In addition to leading anti-racism workshops with the staff and Board of the theater, Challenging Racism has partnered with Keegan to provide behind-the-scenes support and education around issues of race as they arise both in Keegan productions as well as in the room where the art is made.

“Theatre plays a vital role in our community as one of the most powerful platforms for storytelling and amplifying the voices of the unheard and unseen. It can captivate an audience, help us see through a different lens, compelling us to actively listen and endure messages that make us uncomfortable. As theatre brings truths to the surface, It is a pleasure to work with Keegan on this project to empower and activate members of our community.”
