Amid a recession, domestic political tussles and an ongoing war in Afghanistan, some have called the Iraq war “forgotten.” But it’s ooming large in the minds of Washington’s theater community these days: Just weeks after the National Theatre of Scotland brought its acclaimed “Black Watch” to the Shakespeare Theatre, two more productions aim to raise awareness of the nearly decade-long conflict.
On Saturday, the Keegan Theatre welcomes “Basra Boy” to the Church Street Theater for a world premiere. Penned by Northern Irish playwright Rosemary Jenkinson, the play follows two trouble-making teens in Belfast: Speedy and his best friend, Stig, who wants to enlist with the British army in Iraq.”
Actor Josh Sticklin stars in the one-man show, which director Abigail Isaac calls “a really unique way to look at the relationship” between two friends with opposing ideas about the war.
