WORLD PREMIERE
From the writer of BASRA BOY and STELLA MORGAN, Irish playwright Rosemary Jenkinson once again brings her unique and potent brand of wit and verbal acrobatics to Keegan Theatre. Meet Aaron, our Belfast hero who can’t pay his drug dealer and won’t get a soul-numbing job — so he dares to take on the welfare state. A modern version of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, CUCHULLAIN is a dark and comic street-tripping ride. CUCHULLAIN reunites the artistic team from last year’s smash BASRA BOY, with Abigail Isaac once again directing Joshua Sticklin in this one-man show.
The Washington Post Review
“The character is so exuberant and oddly innocent that to share his company is to be caught up in an exhilarating whirl of adventure, impish defiance and consoling camaraderie. “
DC Theatre Scene Review
“…the level of energy Sticklin and Isaac hit together is once again powerful and dynamic…Sticklin never lets the energy lag or the aerobics get sloppy.”
The Washington Times Review
“It takes great acting to pull off a short, intense drama like this. But Josh Sticklin, who also starred in last year’s production of Basra Boy, is able to create the magic once again in Cuchullain.”
Washington City Paper Review
“It’s lively stuff, and Sticklin is an athletic marvel, bounding around the stage and leaping up and down from its sixish-foot secondary platform so often that my knees started to hurt.”
DC Metro Theater Arts Review
“Aaron, the 19-year-old Irish reprobate played with obvious relish by Josh Sticklin, may not convince you that his wanton actions belie an essentially virtuous soul. But you may find him more likeable than you should.”
