PRESS RELEASE: Five More Years in Dupont, 2011-2012 Plans

KEEGAN THEATRE SIGNS FIVE-YEAR LEASE AT CHURCH STREET
Announces Select Shows for Upcoming Season

May 10, 2011—Mark A. Rhea, Keegan Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director, announced today that the company has signed a lease renewal to extend its residency at Church Street Theater through 2017.  “We are thrilled to be making this announcement,” says Rhea.

Keegan is extremely proud to be Dupont Circle’s professional theater company, and honored that audiences have supported our work here so enthusiastically.  Signing a lease for five more years is an honor and an extremely fulfilling milestone for us.”

Final planning is underway for Keegan’s 2011-2012 season, the company’s fifteenth.  Keegan will open its season with Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, which the company is taking to Ireland in September on its annual international tour.  Susan Marie Rhea directs this American masterpiece, having helmed Keegan’s acclaimed 2003 production. The 2011-2012 season also includes a world premiere holiday show written by company member Matthew Keenan. Set in a modern-day Dublin pub, An Irish Carol is “Keegan’s nod to A Christmas Carol,” says Rhea. Loosely based on the Dickens classic, this play will be a seasonal treat for Keegan audiences: a modern retelling that honors the source material while giving the story an Irish heart, context, and humor. Also slated for summer 2012 is Reginald Rose’s gripping drama, Twelve Angry Men, which Keegan plans to take to Ireland in 2012.

This is just the beginning of what is going to be a vivid and extraordinary season at Keegan,” says Rhea.

“We’ll soon announce the remaining shows in the season, which include a musical, comedies both new and old, a contemporary classic that will have audiences buzzing, and another world premiere. Stay tuned!”
