From Sarah Treem, the woman who brought you the incredibly nuanced and stimulating play “The How and The Why” comes another incredibly stimulating and nuanced play, “When We Were Young and Unafraid.” Directed by Marie Byrd Sproul, this play takes women’s rights and looks at it from every corner, leaving no stone unturned.
Director Marie Byrd Sproul’s production at The Keegan Theatre unflinchingly confronts the issues, telling the story of victims who aren’t perfect, caretakers who have their own past, and abusers who didn’t spring from their mother’s womb as monsters.
Treem unwinds a story you can’t shake, especially once the small cast in the Keegan Theatre production starts working the angles and attitudes of Treem’s increasingly interesting characters.
The Keegan Theatre presents the Washington DC premiere of Sarah Treem’s When We Were Young and Unafraid, opening on June 17, 2017. Directed by Marie Sproul, When We Were Young and Unafraid stars Keegan founding company member Sheri S. Herren as Agnes, the role originated by Cherry Jones on Broadway. Herren is joined by Kaylynn Creighton, Jenna Berk, Nora Achrati, and Theo Hadjimichael. The press opening is on Tuesday, June 20, at 8:00 pm.
